    Caledonian Backpackers Hostel
    Hotels in
    Edinburgh
This is a backpackers hostel with a good atmosphere, and is situated in the center of Edinburgh Queensferry Street. It is open 24 hours a day so you will not have to worry if you leave and come back late. If you arrive to the city and what a provisional place to stay, as do many Erasmus students, the hostel offers a weekly rate of 55 pounds. Then prices vary according to how many people share the room with you, between 20 and 12 pounds per night. It is a five minute walk from the train station, and on a flat road, no hills to climb, which there are many of in the city. The price includes sheets and blankets, but they do not provide towels. Below are some common rooms with TV, a computer with internet, and a laundry service. It also has a bar open until quite late at night, but you can´t usually hear the noise from the rooms.

    Castle Rock hotel
    Hotels in
    Edinburgh
If you are looking for a place to stay in Edinburgh, then I recommend that you book Castle Rock. It's a Scottish backpackers hostel located just behind Edinburgh Castle and three minutes from the main street Lawnmarket, where there are plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants and where, along it, there are several monuments and sights. Castle Rock has a great atmosphere and a lot of young travelers stop by. The main room, the larger one, and the smaller ones are cheaper. This hotel has more than 14 to 16 beds for about 12 pounds per night (about 13 euros). The room is quite spacious, so you do not get the feeling of being crowded or cramped because people tend to respect the fact that they're sharing a room. The only drawback is that the bathrooms are mixed, and sometimes it's a little inconvenient to have to shave in front of strangers. The hostel also has a kitchen where you can prepare food you've brought from abroad, and breakfast is included in the price per night (although those traveling from hostel Solais know that they aren't very good, as they're only a cup of cocoa, coffee or tea). The best part of this hostel is that it has two rooms, a small one with a DJ station, and another huge one where guests (from all over the world) gather to play pool, different games, play the guitar, read, etc. The decor is another aspect of the hostel that draws a lot of attention because it seems like you're actually staying in a castle, because there is even a statue of a soldier there(at night it's a little scary). The staff is very kind, they're all young people from around the world: American, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, etc. If you love Edinburgh and if you want to stay there, it's possible you can survive here for the same price or better as anywhere else.

    The Rutland Hotel
    Hotels in
    Edinburgh
The Rutland Hotel is a hotel in the West End, a former Edinburgh slum that is currently becoming a fashionable area. Prices are high, about 200 pounds per night, but the rooms are incredible. There are only 12 rooms, all tastefully decorated and all different in their own way. The street outside is Princess Street, one of the liveliest in the city, with many shops and things to do, but once inside the hotel it is quiet. When you enter the room, you are welcomed with muffins and water bottles, more commonplace in the UK, a kettle and some tea bags or coffee. The rooms have been upgraded and now include a place to put your iPod and play your music. You are in a great location, whether it be for business or tourism, are a five minute walk from the castle and the historic UNESCO World Heritage site, and Princes is one of the streets where it is easiest to take a taxi.

"Best Hotel of the Year 2011" is one of the many prizes that this hotel has won and not without reason. Situated in the center of Glasgow, it offers free internet access, 24h kitchen, free movies in several languages, English and European plugs, a living room with huge bed, and a bathroom in capsule form. But there are drawbacks: the sink is outside the bathroom and no closet.

    Rocco Forte Balmoral Hotel

    Edinburgh
Rocco Forte Balmoral Hotel is a monumental and luxurious five star hotel that's hard not to notice when you're walking along Princes St. The building is right next to Waverley Station, which actually isn't a coincidence at all. It was once known as the Royal British Hotel and was actually built for the Railroad company. Also, for travelers arriving late to the train station...the big clock which shows the time is actually set two minutes fast!

    The George Hotel
    Hotels in
    Inveraray
The George Hotel is situated at the end of the main street of Inveraray. Inveraray is a beautiful historic village located on the Scottish shore of Loch Fyne. The population is less than that of Loch Lomond, but at the same time you´re just an hour away from Glasgow. It is a lovely and convenient place. To begin with, the George was just a couple of private houses built in 1770. With the construction of the neighboring castle, a village developed, commissioned by the Duke of Argyll. It is one of the first planned cities of Scotland. The ground floor was a chapel, and it is now a bar. In the year 1860, the two houses joined together to form the George Hotel, managed by the Clark family. It is the seventh generation of Clark who runs the hotel today. The rooms are very nice with a cozy traditional decor, some have a fireplace or a jacuzzi for a truly special stay. The walls are wood or antique fabrics. A double room costs 70 pounds per night, the deluxe which sleeps four people 130 pounds. Includes breakfast.

    Aberfeldy
We were fortunate enough to spend a week in this great resort through a timeshare exchange. Five years have passed and it still seems like yesterday. Located just outside Aberfeldy, it is in the middle of a large meadow surrounded by a thick forest and perfectly equipped with all the possible amenities needed for a comfortable stay. I still remember that while we had to use the heating Spain and southern Europe were suffering a major heat wave. Being in its small, but attractive, heated pool while watching the rain outside was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had.

    The Inveraray Inn
    Hotels in
    Inveraray
The Argyll Hotel is an old traditional pub and restaurant that is located on Front Street, right in the center of the town of Inveraray. It is a very harmonious place because everything was built during the Georgian era, ie mid-18th Century. The village is one of the most popular tourist destinations to be found near Glasgow. The Argyll Hotel is located opposite the Loch Fyne, a salt lake where people from the village go to swim. The rooms are old style, as the hotel is more than 250 years old. It has an incredible charm, but also some details are quite old. Most rooms have a shower, some a bathroom. All have heated water for tea and coffee, wireless internet, a TV, and are non-smoking. Some have good views of Loch Fyne. The cost for a double room is between 35 and 80 pounds per night in low season and between 39 and 79 in high season. This depends on the type of room you request and also if you book in advance.

    Ardenlee Guest House
    Hostels in
    Edinburgh
Super well located, just a few blocks from the old part of Edinburgh, it's a very quiet neighborhood. This guest house is highly recommended- 100/100. The little hotel, located in a typical multi-story house, looks like it's been renovated a little. Its rooms are spacious, the bathrooms, although small, have everything you could need. The heat works really well and you won't even feel the Edinburgh chill in December. If Ardenlee is full, its owners are the proprietors of another house right next door, which has also been converted into a guest house that's just as cozy as its neighbor. The guest house has a variety of cheap good restaurants a half a block away and Chinese delivery that's pretty good. The photos show the neighborhood.

    Scourie Lodge and Gardens
    Country Houses in
    Scourie
In the quiet and pretty village of Scourie, on the northwest coast of the Highlands (Scottish Highlands) the owners of the Bed and Breakfast Scourie Lodge and Gardens welcome you with a big smile and they "invite" you to stay in their magnificent house surrounded by manicured gardens. The house is a treat to visit, with a history of aristocratic ancestors included, or at least that's how Gerald, the owner, tells the story. Gerald offered us a double room overlooking the beach with beautiful views, a bathroom and sitting room for 75 pounds a night. The next day he served us the overwhelming typical Scottish breakfast in a small room that was beautifully decorated, like the rest of the house, and a large window overlooking the garden. A highly recommended site if traveling through this area. It is not cheap for what is offered out there but it is worth paying the price for their comfort and their location. Stirling
We stayed for a week with our two young daughters. It was the first time staying at a B&B and we were pleasantly surprised. The house is beautiful, nicely decorated and very clean. Alison, the owner, is very nice and helpful. It made us feel like we were at home. Breakfasts are real good and prepared carefully. This property is highly recommendable to visit. Many hotels would like to have the type of quality that this place offered to its guests. The price is fair and everything is of superior quality. It is situated right next to the monument of Willian Wallace and close to the center. It is 40 minutes from Edinburgh and is in a strategic place to visit Scotland.

    Bridge of Allan
The Royal Hotel is located on the main street of Bridge of Allan and also runs another separate building, which is reserved for celebrations and special occasions, called Royal Ivy. This hotel is not only the most famous place to stay in Bridge of Allan (very near Stirling), but is also one of the busiest places for weddings and other events. The service is very good and despite the dated exterior (Victorian building) which was fully remodeled a year ago, the rooms are quite nice with more than reasonable prices. Sometimes the hotel is booked up with wedding parties. A great place to stay in Bridge of Allan.

To find this hotel we thought would cost blood, sweat and tears, we took so many terms and were unable to find it after asking several times. Finally we found a tiny, rugged continuous road, ups and downs that after 8 kilometers left us in the hotel reception. If indeed there is someone who wants to feel loneliness, silence, the banks of Loch Awe is the hotel for you. The complex of the hotel, is about 20 houses with some length and contain double bedrooms, living room with tv and good stereo, full kitchen and bathroom. The only drawback besides mosquitoes is the time it takes to go,. For example to go to Oban distant is only about 30 miles but it takes half an hour and a half to two hours.

    Traveloge Glasgow

    Glasgow
The Cottage Restaurant is a small restaurant situated on the ground floor of a typical house in Inveraray. It is next to a church, in the heart of the village. We went to eat there basically because all the restaurants of the town we looked expensive for what they offered. Scotland is generally much cheaper than England, but as Inveraray is a slightly touristy town most restaurants take advantage of the short season of good weather. We ordered a fish and chip's that was served with tea. Fish was classic, although nothing special, but for an alright price. We also tried a stuffed potato, roasted in the oven with Haggis. The haggis is a Scottish national dish, a sheep lung filled with guts and grass. It is much better than it looks, I assure you! And I recommend to try the sausage roll, which was a strange bread with a flat square sausage and I admit it wasn´t very good. The lunch came out to a bit less than 15 pounds for two people at noon. There aren´t a lot of tables and it was completely packed but the service was quick and quite good to be honest.

    Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland

    Glasgow
The Holiday Inn is in a neighborhood called Glasgow Theatreland. It is a short walk from the central bus station, which takes you directly to the airport, and between the National Theatre and several smaller theaters and CineWorld. It has 113 rooms, of which some are suites. It is in a trendy neighborhood and you have many things around you when you go out, and there is little to offer in terms of food. It is a commercial district that closes at 6pm, apart from the theaters. But it is fine if you do not have transport. Next door is La Bonne Auberge, one of the best restaurants and the city. It costs 85 pounds per night for a double room with private bathroom. Some also have a sofa bed for children to sleep on. For £ 10 you can book with breakfast, and they try to make breakfast more "continental" than the traditional Scottish breakfast made up of sausage and beans. The suites cost 140 pounds per night with breakfast included. The suites are nice but for a normal room Travelodge is usually cheaper.

    Craignure Inn

    Craignure
After much searching, investigating and questioning, we found this inn, a few meters from the ferry terminal in Craignure, a small area with several houses, a tourist information office which there are two in the whole city and the other one is in the capital, a couple of coffee shops and the inn, which functions as a hotel, pub and main restaurant area. The inn gets a lot of traffic because it is situated right where many ferries come and go each day. After visiting the island, we concluded that it was one of the most convenient locations for its proximity to the ferry, being between Tobermory and Fionphort (output port for the Isle of Iona) and very close to the castles of Tolosay and Duart. The inn has only three bedrooms, one double, one with two beds and a family room. Everything is lovely, spacious with TV, heating, bathroom ... All in immaculate condition and it is very clean. Approximately 70 pounds per night, being one of the cheapest options. The food and pub atmosphere are great. Its owners, local (Alex) and the Finnish (Tina) are real charmers ... The best thing is that Tina is the expert on whiskeys in the area!

In one of them, a pink one, is this Bed & Breakfast. The Pink Guest House has 16 comfortable rooms decorated in the tradition of the Isle of Skye, and all have private bathrooms. Most the rooms have breathtaking views. The windows are ideal for storage and to look at the sea.

Ocean Breeze Bed & Breakfast hotel

    Brodick
After examining the local accommodations, we decided on this B&B about fifteen minutes outside of Brodick, in the Bay of Kildonan. The location and the view were wonderful on the waterfront and in the morning, we walked to see seals swimming or sunbathing and a small colony of sea otters. The accommodation was somewhat disappointing. The rooms had old furniture, no television or other modern convenience, which is amazing because their website said otherwise. The English owners were dry and uninterested. Almost everything was being renovated and still for high season prices. For the same price or a little more, you can find much better accommodations and more personality on the Isle of Arran. As I said, the location was ideal situation, possibly things will improve in summer, but certainly, I don't think I would recommend it, not everything will be a good experience (unfortunately).

In September I went on a trip to Dumfries (Scotland) and stayed close to the University of Glasgow from the same city, and to be somewhat out of the heart of town there were not many options. Price wise not cheap but once you're inside you realize that, the room (double) was big and with all amenities. If you need to stay close to the University there is no better hotel in the zone.

The Black Bull is a hotel and pub in Killearn village, north of Glasgow. If you have a car, the Black Bull is a very good option to stay at and to enjoy the city of Glasgow. Below the hotel is a pub-restaurant which is very cozy and serves a traditional regional menu. The food is very good, as is the service. Glasgow is less than an hours drive away if you want to visit the city. The famous Loch Lomond is 10 miles away and there are also whiskey factories, several castles and even a safari for children. The double room with breakfast costs between £95 and £110 per night, and the suite between £125 and £150. There is an offer available that includes dinner for £120 or £150 (room or suite). On Sundays, you are also permitted to stay in the room until five in the afternoon if it has not been reserved for that night. The rooms are comfortable, with a well-equipped bathroom.

Loch Lomond is the largest lake in Scotland and one of the most beautiful. It's fairly easy to find from Glasgow; take the train to Balloch, and it's a 5 minute walk away. To take full advantage of the place, you can stay at the Lomond Park Hotel. Next door is Lomond Shores, a new shopping center that mixes local products and international stores. The Lomond Park Hotel is an old house, and is a quiet place with 17 rooms. Downstairs there is a pub and restaurant. The decor is a bit old and basic, but it's cheap, prices range from £30-60 per night including a full Scottish breakfast. The rooms have TV and kettle for tea. Some have a private bathroom, the others are shared. Service is good.

The hotel is in the town of Luss, on the west bank of Loch Lomond. On foot, you can go to Luss pier and explore the lake by boat. As Scotland, other aquatic sports such as bathing is temperature dependent, but it is a lovely place in the middle of nature. It is best if you have a car, but it can go from Glasgow by train to Balloch and then take a bus to that takes you to Luss. The hotel was recently refurbished inside, but outside it keeps the feel of ancient Scottish pub. The inside there is a restaurant serving drinks and regional food. All rooms have a private bathroom a TV and you need to make tea and coffee. Breakfast is Scottish, ie sausage, blood sausage and bacon, you have to ask if you want something else. In winter they do traditional dance sessions over the weekend to accompany dinner. At the level of prices, the single room costs 45 pounds a night, double 65 and four 110 familial. There is a fourth four little beds for £ 75 too.

For this price you can have access to the fitness center, and wireless internet. The hotel has 100 rooms which are quite nice, with modern decor and very colorful. All the rooms are non-smoking. There is a restaurant, Oshi, which serves Asian and fusion food. There is also a night bar and room service 24 hours. It's cheap for the amenities and quality of service that you get there, in my opinion.
