parador de santiago - hostal reis catolicos
    Paradors in
    Santiago de Compostela
Considered by some the world's first hotel, the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos (Catholic kings’ hostel) started as a pilgrim hospital after the monarchs visit to Santiago. They saw that the existing hospital was insufficient and earmarked a part of the "war profits" to build this beautiful building to serve "all the devout, sick and healthy that will come to the city." That Royal Hospital, which opened in 1509, was made with the vocation to be the largest and with the best infrastructure of the entire pilgramage route... And boy was it achieved! There still remain some of the "protocols" that were established to care for the sick, in which it is even specified that each one have a drywall so that the doctor can specify what should be eaten, how often they should change the straw of the mattresses to prevent infection ... Medical care ... As well as "spiritual", being that they made it obligatory to say the Lord's Prayer five times a day. Among the curiosities, it amazes me that they tended to the sick and the pilgrims in more than "half a dozen European languages.” Transforming afterwards into a hospital ("pure and simple"), in the late fifties it became a Hostel, becoming part of the Paradores Nacionales (state run tourist hotels) network becoming one of their emblems. The cloisters, chapels, stables ... Each and every one of the antique rooms have been remodelled and adapted to current needs, being that the hotel now not only provides refuge for its guests but also for events of all kinds: from weddings and cocktail parties, fashion shows, conferences, dances. .. Our heritage at the disposal of the public for the use and enjoyment of all.

This charming hotel is found in an old two-storey house. It's location is very good because it is situated in the historic centre of Santiago de Compostela. Both the rooms and common areas are decorated in a modern style with good taste and colour. Without doubt, the best thing in the house is the yard, a magical place to enjoy the sunset.

This hotel is perfect for people who like modern architecture. The rooms are beautiful and very comfy, as is the whole building. Also it has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and a sauna. This hotel is located in a beautiful setting and only 5 minutes from the cathedral. I only ate in the hotel one day but it was very good. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this hotel. It's very close to the Obradoiro square. It's well maintained and very pretty. It used to be a monastery, and has been tastefully converted. It has a patio with lovely grounds and the rooms are spacious and are not lacking in detail. Overall the hotel is fine, if I go back to Santiago, I will definitely stay in this hotel.

    Santiago de Compostela
This campsite is the perfect spot if you're visiting Santiago de Compostela, just 2km from the cathedral and the historic centre (if you don't fancy walking, there's a convenient bus). It has all the necessary facilities: holiday bungalows, shopping area, caravans, bathrooms, supermarket, coffee shop, laundry, restaurant and pool ... The area is shadey, and very quiet. The price for 2 people + motorhome + electricity = 22.10 (VAT included). It's open all year round, and the staff are lovely.

This tiny 3 star hotel is caring to the smallest detail. The porter parks your car, he also makes you breakfast; a small breakfast because of course you can't leave without trying the "tarta de Santiago". Cosy and comfy room, all super clean. Staff are always on hand to help with anything you need or want. And when you leave, your car is at the door and you're left with smile and being wished a good trip! LAST ONE!

ac palacio del carmen, autograph collection, a marriott luxury & lifestyle hotel
    Hotels in
    Santiago de Compostela
The old convent of the Oblate has been converted into the Hotel AC Palacio del Carmen, a sober and elegant building which respects the traditional architectural and artistic style but has been eqipped for the needs of today. Located in the historic heart of the city of Santiago de Compostela, it is just 5 minutes from the Plaza del Obradoiro, near the University campus with easy access to the transport network. You'll find a beautiful garden with hydrangeas and camellias overlooking the Cathedral. The restaurant "The Camelio" perfectly blends traditional Galician cuisine with modern twists. The perfect choice for a trip to this wonderful city.

    hotel a tafona do peregrino

    Santiago de Compostela
I was surprised to find this hotel in Santiago de Compostela. The hotel has 14 or 15 rooms, but the ones we got were fantastic, made of wood and stone, with a contemporary design. The beds are cozy, the front desk service is great, trying to explain all we could see of the city. We were half board and although it was an open buffet, I really enjoyed it. The food was to design and servian you at the table, the breakfast was simple, but the orange juice was freshly squeezed at the time of ordering. I honestly like it with a juice, coffee, pastries and a bit of sausage with freshly baked bread for the hungriest, I think that's enough. It is a two star hotel, but I can assure you I have been in four star hotels and would be as good as this. It is also very well located, next to the market of Supplies and very close to the cathedral.

This is a lovely hotel dating back to 1700, in one of those old Galician houses. Unlike normal hotels, which all look the same, this is made from stone and wood and has a courtyard adjoining the Ana restaurant (where you can enjoy an exquisite meal). The staff were always very attentive and friendly, there are clean rooms with plasma TV, desk, phone, internet, etc ... the marble bathroom has a hairdryer, towels, soap, etc ... luxury in central Santiago de Compostela for a reasonable price [60EUR per night]

After a comprehensive reform, the hotel reopened on July 1 2013. Modern and central, it's ideal for visiting the ancient city of Santiago de Compostela. It's on Calle Horreo, ten minutes walk from the cathedral, and just 100 metres from the train station and 200 metres from the bus stop for the airport bus. Just in front, public parking is available. The hotel has 132 rooms spread over eight floors, all equipped with safe, minibar, hairdryer, amenities, individual climate control, telephone and TV with satellite channels. In addition, the hotel has a fitness center, two meeting rooms, and free WiFi throughout the hotel.

    casa porta de santiago
    Youth Hostels in
    Santiago de Compostela
Casa Porta de Santiago is a place which every pilgrim travelling the Camino Frances should visit. It's not exactly a hostel, more a house with rooms: there are three bedrooms (one with a double bed and bathroom), a kitchen with everything you need, a living/dining room, full bathroom, garden, barbecue facilities and garage. The price is 110 euros per day, quite expensive for the frugal spirit of the pilgrim. We only stopped for breakfast, which was indeed the most expensive of our trip, but the setting is beautiful and so close to Santiago, making it worth a stop, even if just to adjust your boots and enjoy a coffee.

This is a small hotel with just 1 star, but which can easily hold its own alongside more luxurious hotels. Located in a small alley, near the Cathedral of Santiago, the hotel has rustic stone walls and wooden floors. The staff are lovely, especially the gentleman who greeted us on our arrival and was very friendly and did not stop giving advice and recommendations about the city. Totally recommended :)

    Youth Hostels in
    Santiago de Compostela
After passing the Monte do Gozo, we decided to rest overnight in Santiago before going to the pilgrim mass at 12:00 in the cathedral. We chose the Hostel St Lazarus, which is at the entrance of Santiago, and is easy to get to. The hostel was almost empty when we arrived (about 11 am), as it's a government-run Camino hostel, in which pilgrims have to leave by 8 am. There are common rooms with bunk beds, and each bed has a locker where you can leave your valuables while you visit Santiago. It has laundry, showers, cooking, reading and TV lounge and everything is very clean. The price is 10 Euros, including linen and towel.

A 3 star hotel with a great location, just a few metres from the old town, in the commercial and entertainment district of Santiago, and a few minute walk to the city's main attractions: the cathedral, Alameda park, Market Square, museums, etc. Very well connected to both the train station and the airport (there's a bus stop 5 minutes from the hotel). It has all the amenities and facilities to make your stay a unique experience: comfortable rooms, large common areas, a multipurpose space for business meetings, presentations, training sessions, and any other type of event, both corporate and social. Various dining options and leisure activities are on offer.

I had seen the review of this hotel on Minube and I'd guessed it was central and cheapish. Well, It didn't disappoint me at all. It really is in the middle of Compostela Old Zone and everything is brand new. They offered us breakfast in our deal and got many facilities to leave backpacks on the day of our departure so that we could stroll around the streets luggage free in our last few hours. Susana, who greeted us at check in gave us very good recommendations and she's the friendliest person I've met here.

    Santiago de Compostela
This building is the headquarters of the reception office for pilgrims coming to Santiago, and is managed by the Archdiocese. It was built by Clemente Fernandez Sarela, in the eighteenth century, to house the bishops who visited the city, and afterwards it continued to serve as a place for the most important religious visitors to stay. The most striking feature of the façade is the decoration that frames the front door, as well as the balcony. The interior has a beautiful staircase leading to the upper floor. It's open every day from 9:00 to 21:00 h.

This is a modern guesthouse with the same characteristics of an upscale hotel (heating, elevator, exterior and spacious rooms, WIFI, practical, clean, television with Freeview ...), recently built and situated quite centrally. It is just 10 minutes from the cathedral and on the boundary of the historic. The atmosphere and customer service is friendly and welcoming. They have 8 rooms (7 double/triple and 1 single). Breakfast is free. There is also a private garage and a large garden with a stunning palm tree. Curiously, each room was named with one of the many tourist areas of Galicia and in the header of the cabin beds there is a picture of the sunset of the region.

The Pazo de Agra boarding house is a charming small (14 rooms) establishment run by Fernando and his family in the heart of the old town, 5 minutes from the cathedral and 1 min from the faculties of history, geography and philosophy. I stayed here when I arrived in the city on a dark and rainy evening. The owners are very friendly. The rooms are rustic but clean. There are single, double and triple rooms available. They also rent apartments (high season 50 or 69 euros, depending on the size / low season 40-45).

    tryp santiago hotel
    Hotels in
    Santiago de Compostela
We like the Tryp chain, so we chose this one. We got a great rate, including bed and breakfast, a cheese board and a bottle of Albariño wine. I was very pleasantly surprised because my room was beautifully decorated, with 2 red puffs, a modern coffee table, LCD TV, shower fixed screen ... but you could tell it was recently refurbished because the doors were older. The only downside the Tryp Santiago is the location as it is a good distance away from downtown, 25 minutes from the center of the city of Santiago de Compostela, just by the Corte Ingles department store. A bus can take you downtown in five minutes. Personally, I highly recommend opting for bed & breakfast if you stay here; as always with this chain, the breakfast is great, with a very complete buffet including ham, omelette, fresh croissants ... all delicious. So in short, although the location isn't ideal, the hotel is great in terms of facilities, and we recommend it to everyone.

Our stay at Apartamentos Casa dal La Inmaculada was extremely satisfying, comfortable and peaceful. We had just finished walking the 790 kilometre Camino de Santiago from France and were really looking for a place to totally relax and recuperate without breaking the bank so finding Ines and her apartments was our little miracle. Ines was a wonderful hostess, nothing was too much trouble and she gave us lots of ideas of what to see and when, even down to ensuring we got to see the special event at the cathedral of the swinging of the giant fumereria. We strongly recommend a stay at these apartments.

    hotel santa lucía
    Hotels in
    Santiago de Compostela
I stayed here for four days in 2010 with my husband. The main advantages of this hotel we found were: 1) Cleaning. Not just the room, but also the reception, cafe and other public areas. 2) Price - very economical, especially when compared with the most central hotels. The accommodation includes breakfast, which is simple but with fresh juice, coffee or hot chocolate, and croissants, toast and pastries to choose from. 3) The staff are helpful and friendly, and will over help with information about the city, bus schedules, etc. 4) Free parking for customers. 5) There a computer from which you can access free internet in reception and wi-fi in the cafe and reception. 6) The front desk is open 24 hours. 7) The room we stayed in was simple but charming, with pine furniture: a bed, a desk, a fairly wide wardrobe and two bedside tables. The mattress was quite new and hard, just the way I like it. It also had a chair and TV. The window overlooked a forest outside the hotel. The bathroom is a bit small, but very clean. In addition, the sheets and towels are changed everyday, and there was a basket with shower caps, shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. 8) The cafe where breakfast is served is quite large, with a large bar and plenty of tables. It has large windows overlooking the main road, and plenty of natural light. You can have a snack or light meal at almost any time. But despite its many advantages, the Hotel Santa Lucia is far from the historic centre of Santiago. If you're walking it will take at least half an hour, down a major thoroughfare with plenty of traffic (about 3 km). This problem is solved by the P3 minibus which stops at the door of the hotel and will take you downtown to the Plaza Galicia for 90 cents. A taxi to the centre of Santiago is about 10 euros, and by car or taxi, the journey takes about five minutes. To get back, the bus stop is across the road, and the zebra crossing is a little bit out of the way. The TV is very small, as always in these cases, but it worked great. Furthermore, as the hotel is on the very edge of the N-525, it can be a bit noisy if you're a light sleeper,, even though the window is of good quality and close to perfection. In short, I think a 100% recommended hotel for those looking for cleanliness and functionality, but not for those looking for central accommodation.

This is a restored sixteenth century monastery, and most of the rooms are still part of the former seminary where monks once slept. The furniture is simple and austere; don't expect the latest modern comforts! The atmosphere is lovely, though, with a touch of the Middle Ages. The location is great: very central and right in front of the Cathedral of Santiago. The entrance opens onto the square of the Immaculate Conception. Prices are moderate, as it is aimed at pilgrims. The dining room is outstanding, and offers very affordable meals to pilgrims.

It's a pleasure to be staying in the Altair. Recently, just down the road from Altair, The Hotel Moure opened. A modern hotel with lots of charm.
