Culinary Interest in Rome
Giolitti
(14)
This is a true temple to gelato and is quite famous in Rome. Everyone ve visits Rome should stop by and try the gelato at least once during their trip. It was founded by an Italian couple, Guiseppe and Bernadina Giolitti, and became so famous that it even supplied ice cream to the Italian royal family. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas where you can enjoy some gelato, a slice of cake, or one of their exquisite truffles. It’s definitely a must when you’re in Rome. After all, the ice cream is world famous.

Pizzeria da Baffetto

This place is located on a small street near Piazza Navona. I had heard that there’d most certainly be a line but that the wait was well worth it. We got there a bit late and luckily the queue had died down and we didn't have to wait too long after all. The décor is quiet and normal and the place seems small; the tables are basically stacked on top of each other so it feels like you’re eating elbow-to-elbow with the rest of the customers. But oh, the pizzas…they melt in your mouth. Super recommendable!

Il Ragno d'Oro

This restaurant provides a great eating experience around the Vatican. The local restaurants are often expensive but this one offers excellent value. The menu is extensive and everything we tried was delicious. The staff is very friendly and are dedicated not only to serve if not to give guidance on the card and on the same city!

Gelateria Tre Fontane
(4)
This gelateria is an institution in Rome and it’s located in the spectacular Piazza Navona which should be on every tourist’s itinerary. The specialty is tartufo, balls of chocolate covered with chocolate powder. They’re superb and come in all sorts of flavors! Enjoying one of these delectable treats in such a famous place is a true pleasure.

La Casa Del Caffè Tazza D'oro

Only a few meters from the Pantheon in downtown Rome, I saw several couples leaving this place with cups of “café freddo,” a kind of frozen coffee cream. Others came out with delicious looking concoctions topped with whipped cream. And it didn't stop; people kept entering and entering this little café. I ended up going three different times when I was in Rome and I even bought several bags of coffee (they grind it themselves) before I went home. There’s nothing better on a hot day than a cool café freddo while looking at the colossal and magnificent Pantheon.

Mò Mò Republic
(22)
Mò Mò Republic is both a restaurant and cultural center located in a renovated historic villa in Monteverde Nuove. The restaurant is known for its simple, high-quality Italian cuisine (you MUST try the fettuccine with mushrooms and truffles), good prices, and modern but casual atmosphere (in other words, no fancy dress required). If you're going to staying in Rome for a while, check out their website from upcoming events like movie nights, book signings, etc. You also have the option to become a "citizen" of the republic and enjoy membership discounts. The only drawback is the location. It's located a good ways outside of the city center but there is a good mix of transportation options so it’s still fairly easy to reach. I really recommend it.

Sfizio Pizza

A delicious restaurant which is next to Termini, making it perfect to eat while on the way from one corner to another. They have all kinds of Italian food: Pizza (from fungi, plants, four cheeses, etc..), Cannelloni, penne, lasagna, calzoni, etc.., All at reasonable prices. A quarter of a pizza (quite large, the whole pizza probably measures more than two feet in diameter) ends up to be about 3 euros, and drinks around 2. The sit down dishes were slightly more pricey, but nonetheless very reasonable. A quarter of a pizza, a plate of lasagna, and fanta for about 10 euros. There is also a menu of the day but I didn't ask to see it. Great care, very friendly employees, like all Italians in general. I would give it A 10.

Alle Fratte di Trastevere
(1)
Anyone going to Rome wanting to try real Italian food without emptying his pockets should visit this site. It is a small restaurant located in the most traditional neighborhood of Rome, Trastevere. The deal is exquisite, friendly and familiar, delicious dishes, filling, 30 euros per person. It has a quiet, small terrace at night and flavored with the Dolce Vita. I loved it and hope to return.

The Mirror
(5)
This places serves the typical Rome menu but with a bit more variety than normal. For 10 Euros you can have a starter (your choice of bruschetta), salad, your choice of pizza or pasta, water, dessert, and a drink (including beer or wine). I’d recommend it. Besides, the service is great and there were lots of locals in the restaurant which is always a good sign.

La Montecarlo

Is this one of those must-see pizzerias when you're in Rome. The quality to price ratio is great and the portions are also generous. Their pizzas are magnificent and the service is very attentive and friendly. It is very close to the Piazza Navona and the famous Da Baffetto.

Carlo Menta

This is a good place to eat if you’re in the Trastevere neighborhood. The prices are comparable with the rest of the neighborhood, but they don’t tack on any additional charges like a lot of places. As I mentioned, it’s a touristy place but that doesn't mean it’s not good. The menu offers the usual Roman fare of pasta and pizza along with some meat dishes like saltimbocca alla Romana, which is what I ordered. The outdoor terrace is very nice though sometimes you have to wait for a table. All in all, we liked it.

Il Bacaro
(6)
This is a wonderful place to eat in downtown Rome near the Pantheon and the Piazza Navona, and has a really charming atmosphere, especially at night. There is a pergola covered in ivy that makes it all the more enchanting. Il Bacaro is a historic restaurant in the capital that’s capable of combining tradition and modernity. I’d like to make a special mention of the reasonable prices and friendly service.

Taverna Barberini
(3)
La Taberna Barberini is a small restaurant that makes pizza and Italian dishes. It is right in front of Palazzo Barberini, across from the four fountains. We ate for about 25 euros / person for a first course, second course, and wine of the house. The pizzas were great, but the wine and other courses not so much. The restaurant's decor is the typical stuff: bottles of wine and olive oil from the regions which produce them. It's in the basement of a building that doesn't have a garden or terrace. The staff was friendly and nice, and the service quite fast considering the fact that our group was about 10 people. But it's a good place to eat at noon after having seen Palazzo Barberini gallery, or to eat out with a group or significant other.

Bar Tre Scalini
(6)
Bar Tre Scalini is located in the famous Piazza Navona, a charming pedestrian square in the center of Rome. The bar is right next to the Bernini Fountain so it is the perfect place to relax with a drink after visiting the fountain. But, the restaurant was not perfect. Everything is frozen or prepared ahead of time and microwaved. Do you really want to eat frozen pizza in Rome?. The staff was also not very nice and seemed more interested in attending tourists than anything else. However, the gelato is very good. You get two generous scoops of gelato for about 3 euros and it's very tasty and refreshing. If you're looking for a full meal, there are better restaurants nearby.

Cencio La Parolaccia
(9)
The Parolaccia is a restaurant located in the area known as the Trastevere. Trastevere is known for its many bars and restaurants. The Parolaccia is not just another restaurant as it serves typical Italian cuisine and stands out among the rest of the eateries. "The Parolaccia" means "bad word". This fact attracts pure insults and a lot of people are waiting to be insulted by the staff, laughing at the irony and enjoying a good Italian meal. Highly recommended (if you do not mind being insulted), but if you want to eat there, try to book in advance, as is usually full.

Sugo Restaurant
Following the advice of users we dined at Sugo. We got the last table on the terrace, and I will tell everything. Great service and quality / price was very good. This is not an extensive food critique, I leave a few pictures of the dishes and the total price, € 33 for two courses, dessert and a bottle of water.

Gelateria Della Palma
(3)
No one can leave Rome without sampling authentic "Italian gelato." In the center of town, near the Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, you can find the "Gelateria Della Palma" which offers one hundred different flavors of ice cream. Yes yes, one hundred flavors! You will be impressed even just by the "chocolate" section. Choose the number of scoops, cone type and mmmmmm ... Enjoy!!

Ristorante Zio Ciro
(3)
This pizzeria serves typical Italian food, Neapolitan to be exact, and has two stores in Rome. This one is behind Piazza Navona, one of my favorite places, and is the one I know. I have to recommend the bruschettas and pizzas, all at a very affordable price and in a most authentic atmosphere. The terrace is in a quiet alley where it's delightful to see visitors from the city walking past and to enjoy the outdoors. Do forget to to have a [poi = 72484] tartufo [/ poi] dessert in Piazza Navona, mmmmmm ...
