Kippen Parish Church
(1)
This church is the tallest building in Kippen and was built in 1827 by the locally famous merchant William Stirling. It was a simple structure, following the patterns of larger churches of the Religious Reformation in the seventeenth century, but between 1924 and 1926 the Bell brothers reformed the church, involving local artisans like H Hendrie, and added stained glass and other interesting visual touches. Today it's very attractive, with large gardens including some tall cypress trees. On days of worship, the collection of expensive cars, including Porsches and Rolls Royces, is sure to catch the eye ... indeed, a local told me that the people in the village often go to the next village, Fintry, for services as the parishioners there are a lot more "normal"!
