If you like movies, theater, photography, visual arts, music, etc, etc, etc, you want to be in Portland, a city on the Atlantic coast in the State of Maine. The motto: "contemporary, emerging and unconventional arts, artists, and ideas" Gallery Space 538 could be extended to the entire city: Art, artists and ideas emerging, contemporary and unconventional. This space was created with the idea to create an artistic space right there in the middle of the neighborhood. In the mornings and evenings this art gallery is a hub where you can either be a painting student or a student in a photography workshop, or if you ask, perhpas even a teacher. On Wednesdays and Fridays and weekends, exchibitions are open at night and concerts as well as short samples are performed. The Space Gallery is already one of the favorite places chosen by more and more artists as they choose Portland as the spot to exhibit their artwork.
The Whiskie a go-go opened in 1964 and since then has been a benchmark of Rock and Roll in Los Angeles, and therefore in the world. Its stage has been a launching pad for generations of legendary musicians like Johnny Rivers, Frank Zappa, Love, the Doors, Buffalo Springfield, Guns and Roses and Motley Crue. Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and more have played on this small stage.. Located on the legendary Sunset Boulevard, it's surrounded by other famous venues such as The Roxy, the Rainbow, the Coconut Teaser and others. The concert ticket is usually about twenty dollars and beer is about seven dollars.
At night it's better to go to a local parking lot in the surrounding area where the people in charge will signal you with neon headlights ($ 10) all night long, as you like). When I was there the last time LA Guns played and it was the anniversary of Jack Daniels so the heir of the Tennessee brand came and handed out pieces of cake to celebrate. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia is a huge theater with two rooms in which events are held simultaneously. To be able to enjoy a concert in one of its rooms is an amazing experience. The center boasts superb acoustics. This performing arts center regularly features concerts from the most important orchestras in the world, and in the case that you do not want-or do not have time-to stay for a performance, you can visit the center and see its impressive structures from within.
In August Madison puts on two weeks of free outdoor concerts on the Capitol grounds. Most people bring a well-stocked picnic and lay the tablecloth on the grass. Sit and enjoy the music. It is one of the few times when nobody will tell you off if you drink a good bottle of wine in public.
Made famous by Duke Ellington in particular, Birdland is one of the most famous New York jazz clubs. The prices are not the cheapest, but the jazz musicians who perform here are truly amazing. There are several concerts every day, but recommend that you try the traditional "Birdland Jazz Band", every Friday afternoon for $25. We loved the shimmering decor, the delicious cocktails, and above all, the great music.
