Stadiums in New York
Yankees Stadium

This stunning building, in a corner in the heart of the Bronx, houses one of the most iconic teams in the league. It breathes sports history, with murals nearby capturing historic teams. Its a curiosity, like the NBA, that the league titles plastered on the facade say "world championships," even though this is obviously not a world league.

This is a place of worship for basketball fans and fanatical followers of Jordan, Pippen and the Bulls. In the middle of nowhere. It is the House of the Black Hawks (hockey) and the Bulls (basketball) and it has the capacity for more than 21,000 spectators and also houses concerts and other events. The so-called "House of Jordan", has a statue of this basketball star at its entrance and here you can read all the highlights of Jordan's career. The sculpture shows his famous jump. In addition, the stadium has a shop and pub, albeit with a rather odd hours (I did not managed to find it open). And to enter the stadium you have to book by phone. During the season, the games are not very expensive, about $ 90 for a regular ticket. The stadium was built in 1994 and is located west of the city, about 10-15 minutes by taxi from North Michigan Avenue which costs more or less 8-9 dollars. The web page tells you their schedules, prices and so on. Its name comes from the sponsor, the company United Airlines. This area of the city is not bad, it is now a residential area with its low houses although it is not the best area of the city to go at night, though. But during the day one can stroll pretty quietly.

Soldier Field

Soccer Field stadium is located on the south end of Grant Park. overlooking Lake Michigan. It houses the home games of the NFL's Chicago Bears, a professional football team. It's a great stadium built in the 20s that follows neoclassical architectural guidelines. I have a lot of affection for it, as the first time I traveled to the city I was given a room that had a spectacular view of its facilities. It underwent a radical overhaul ten years ago that altered its structure so much it lost its historical place category, something Americans take very seriously. Only two colonnaded sides were kept. The facilities might be technologically advanced, but the building has lost all of its kitschy charm. A shame. What was once a Greco-Roman circle is now no more than post-modern goop.
Stadiums in Cincinnati
Paul Brown Stadium
This large stadium located on Cincinnati Riverfront, opened in 2010. It goes hand in hand with the other major sports stadium in the city, the Reds Baseball stadium. The Cincinnati Bengals, of the NFL, the professional football league play their games here. It is popularly known as 'The Jungle' and has a very modern appearance, but its design does not command too much attention. The area where it is located, across the Ohio River, is newly developed and is full of offices, so it is not very easy to walk around.

Great American Ball Park

Have been going to Cincinnati Reds games at Great American Ballpark for many years. The ballpark offers beautiful views of the Ohio River. Located next to the ballpark is "The Banks", a neighborhood of bars and restaurants and an awesome place to hang out both before an after Reds games. Tickets are often affordable and there aren't many bad seats in the ballpark but there are a few.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse

Basketball fans will recognize this as the sports hall where the Indiana Pacers of the NBA play their home games. It is also home to two professional sports teams: women's basketball and ice hockey. Although its capacity is not anything special (14,000 spectators), the Fieldhouse stands out as one of the most advanced indoor sports facilities in the world. On the outside it looks brand new but it has a particularly striking design.

Amway Arena

The Amway Arena is a stadium where we watched the Orlando Magic NBA team play. We bought the cheapest tickets, about $15, and we still had a great view of the game. In the corridors there are several eateries and shops for you to buy team shirts, caps and so on.

Kenan Memorial Stadium

The stadium of the University of Chapel Hill is the home of the Tar Heels. A trip to the United States would not be complete without a visiting a football game. The fervor, the atmosphere, the colors and the famous cheerleaders create an incredible atmosphere! We didn't always understand the rules, but we were carried away by the mood. And imagine a university stadium that can accommodate 60,000 people! In the gift shop (above the cafeteria) you can buy official merchandise like t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Unlike 99.99% of my countrymen I am a big baseball fan and in my travels to the United States the sport always has a special place for me. This was my first time traveling with my family (not counting an Orlando Christmas trip, where we had no time for anything but theme parks), so we had different priorities, but I still knew that I needed to see some baseball! I wanted to see the Chicago Cubs play, but as the stadium is small, it's hard to get tickets. I had the chance to see a game in Cincinnati, but I'm not exactly a fan of the Reds and the prices also rose to $ 100 apiece. In the end, some friends in Lexington, Kentucky, invited us to watch one of their local team's games. So we went to see the Legends, who play in the A category, the lowest in professional baseball. The Legends play their home games at Applebee's Park, with a capacity for 6,500 spectators. It's not much, but compared to the stadiums where baseball is played in Spain, it was a marvel. For six dollars each, we had great front row seats next to first base ... A luxury. We were lucky that it was the 'Fan Appreciation Day', the day when the clubs thank the crowd for their loyalty during the season (late August), usually with gifts and special performances. The American environment is incredible: everyone stands to sing the national anthem, eats hot dogs and drinks beer, and cheers loudly for the home team! And in the end, there were fireworks. Overall we had a blast for 400 or 500 euros less than it would have cost in Chicago, and we enjoyed a genuine atmosphere of the American heartland.
