    Where to stay in Rome

    Hotels in Rome
    Hotel D'Inghilterra
This hotel is on one of the streets behind the Piazza di Spagna. If you like to shop, this is the ideal hotel: all the main shopping streets and brand-name stores are nearby. The only fault I can find with this hotel is that there is a bit of noise from the street. The hotel is wonderfully luxurious and the rooms are the kind that you don't easily forget. I remember coming back from a day exploring Rome, opening up the door to my room and thinking "now THIS is the life!" The service, as you can imagine, is outstanding and what you'd expect from a hotel of this category (and price). It's not ideal for every kind of vacation, but if you have the money and it's a special occasion (I'm thinking honeymoon), then it's the best place in Rome. Trivia 1: the palace across the street belongs to the Lequio family. Triva 2 (much more interesting): there is a plaque at the hotel entrance in honor of the Polish Nobel laureate who lived in the hotel. Sienkiewicz, if I remember correctly.

Sheraton Roma Hotel & Conference Center
Rome has two Sheraton hotels, but we stayed at the Sheraton Roma Hotel in the Eur district in the south of the city. The decor of the rooms was not very modern...nothing was lacking, but it seemed like my grandparents' home. The beds are very good though. The hotel food is good and they give you plenty of options at breakfast, but the bar is a little seedy and there's an old singer with a piano. To visit Rome, the subway is a 10 minute walk from the hotel and there are a few buses nearby as well. Another negative point is that they charge 12 euros per day for internet! Keeping in mind that the rooms costs more than 150 euros per night, they should include internet. The hotel has 640 rooms and downstairs there is a small gallery with shops which, while convenient, are rather expensive. Oh, and it has a pool!

    Hotel Accademia
I have very good memories of this hotel. I visited years ago and the room and service were both marvelous. It’s practically on top of the Trevi Fountain and the Barberini metro station. There are lots of bars, restaurants, and pizza to-go places in the neighborhood. The building is old but renovated and elegant, with high ceilings and luxurious common areas. We got assigned an enormous triple room with basic furniture, but it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom is what really stood out: two sinks, sterling marble, and a large shower. Despite being close to Trevi Fountain, we didn't notice any outside noise. Not all the rooms are as nice nor have the same level of refinement as ours, so I guess we got lucky. The breakfast buffet is standard for a European 3-star hotel.

    Boscolo Exedra Roma, Autograph Collection
The experience was great! It was Christmas and decor plus a choir (like in the movies) singing carols once you enter leaves you amazed. Great breakfasts, great facilities...I still remember the divine panettone. In short, you should go.

    Hotel Novecento
Practical hotel located just 150 meters from Manzoni Metro Station and near bus stops going towards various tourist attractions in the city. Spacious rooms, no frills but with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast included in the price and it was not much, but had a bit of everything. The staff was very friendly and smooth, and the place has a roof terrace from which you can see the roofs and statues of the apostles [poi = 516971] San Giovanni in Laterano [/ poi]. Definitely recommended.

    Domus Valeria B&B hotel
This elegant B&B is located in central Rome near the Piazza di Spagna and has one simple mission: to make you feel at home. Well, they certainly do a great job of it, especially thanks to the owner Marco and the lovely details of the interior. There are two double rooms and one single room, each with its own decoration and soul. You can have breakfast on the roof with amazing views of Rome, Monti Trinitadei, and the Academy of France. Or, head up at night and enjoy an evening under the stars. Very recommended!

    Seven Kings Relais
I had wanted a hotel near the Termini Railway Station (Rome’s main transportation hub) and I found this small (it only has one floor) but very recommendable hotel. It’s completely renovated, modern, young, and friendly. The reception has tea and cookies and the like. They gave us some helpful information about the city like metro and bus lines. The price was great.

    Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo hotel
This is a 4-star hotel located on a street near the Colosseum; the Coliseo metro stop is only 300 meters from the hotel. The rooms are functional and have everything you need; the bathroom is a bit small, especially the shower, but the location makes up for it. The hotel has a terrace on the 8th floor with a pool and absolutely wonderful views. If you visit Rome in the summertime, you’ll be thankful.

    The Westin Excelsior Rome hotel
When in Rome, it doesn't matter if you're a bit short on cash and you're staying in a Bed and Breakfast or in a hostel...... It's always good and rewarding walk around the "expensive places" that you may never go to stay, but just going for a walk around their lobby or perhaps, as I did, a little sit in a chair to rest my feet ..... See how you feel in those places. So when you walk down Via Veneto, which incidentally, is a very short walk, only two or three blocks, the feeling you get when you enter the Hotel Excelsior, even for a little while is unforgettable.

    Palma Residence
For our trip to Rome we found this hotel, it seemed perfect for what we wanted; a cheap hotel near the Termini station, with breakfast included and an en-suite. Arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a nice guy who showed us to the room, where we left our belongings and went to eat. The next morning we wanted to leave early and at 07:30 we tried to make ourselves coffee from the machine they have in the hallway (Nespresso type), but the guy who was there that morning got annoyed and said they served from 08:00 h. We agreed to wait a while, but I had never tasted such a bad latte in my life, even from the University coffee machine. On the second day they wanted to charge us in cash a 10 € fee for the council (I'm still waiting for the receipt). Over the following days, adding to the problems they brought us breakfast between 08:30 and 08:45am, but we didn´t want to waste time sipping a crappy latte and eating a croissant warmed in the microwave. This is what happened in a so-called hotel and we have stayed in some hell holes, but we have never been treated so poorly.

    Fontana Hotel
This is the only hotel overlooking the stunning Fontana di Trevi. Obviously, I can only recommend the rooms that overlook the fountain; the others don't have the same quality : price ratio. It's awesome to look out of your window and see the fountain, but other than that, the hotel is ideally located for visiting all the historic hot spots in Rome. Nothing is more than a few minutes' walk away. I came here to celebrate my 11th wedding anniversary, looking for something special for a romantic weekend with my wife, and I assure you it was a success. We'll be back when we have another chance to get away, but only if we can be sure we'll get room 105 again! Here's a photo taken from the room.

    Eurostars International Palace hotel
Central, cute, and welcoming I’d recommend this 4-star hotel both for its location right on Rome’s Via Nazionale and its price. We paid around 100€ the night during the low season; if you’re visiting in summer or during the holidays then the price would logically be a bit higher. Breakfast was included and it was an ample and tasty spread of fruit, pastries, and juice. As far as the rooms go, they’re warm and clean and we had no problems. There is a friendly 24-hour reception that has free wi-fi around the clock. I was very content with the hotel and I’d recommend it to anyone. As I mentioned, it’s very central and only about a 10 minutes’ walk from the Trevi Fountain and the main sights in Rome

The Atlante Star Hotel is a 4 star hotel in the heart of Rome. 3 minutes from the Vatican and Castel San Angel. 10 minutes from the Piazza Navona and only 15 minutes from the Spanish Steps. A great option for travelers, close to all the major landmarks of the city.

    Hotel Villa Pinciana
We spent a pretty good weekend at this 4-star hotel last June. The location is great and the staff is very polite. The hotel is relatively new (opened in 2009) and the rooms aren’t enormous or anything, but they are clean, nice, and comfortable (air conditioning, heat, mini-bar, flat-screen, etc.). The best part was the breakfast in the hotel courtyard, without a doubt.

    Bramante Hotel
This hotel, dating back to 1873, has a great location within the Fort St Angelo, in a lovely quiet little street. The historic building means that there's no lift, but the dedication of the staff, the detail, and the amazing breakfast give this simple 3-star hotel a definite charm.
