My Friend's Place is in Air Batang (ABC village as it is generally called) on the island of Tioman. When you get off the boat at the dock of Air Batang, go to the right, and it is five minut walk. There are no cars on the island, only golf carts and all the people go by foot or by bike. The hostel My Friend's Place has 8 wooden bungalows on the edge of a beautiful beach. Prices are cheap, two people can sleep for less than 10 euros, and there is a kitchen to prepare your own food, but as it is an island, the store prices are relatively high, eating fried rice at a food stand is hardly more expensive than cooking for yourself. The owner is a young man from the island who speaks perfect English, and it's always nice to be cared for by the owners. The beach is in front of the hotel, and it has the most beautiful sunsets, but for snorkeling, it is better to get close to the dock where you got off the ship. The sea is very shallow, and with a meter of water it is amazing the amount of fish that can be seen here. Near the hotel there is a diving school, if you want to see more of the fishes!
Kapas is an island paradise off the west coast of Malaysia. Few people go there because they're more attracted to Thailand's beaches. It's in the region of Terengganu, a half hour on the Marang speedboat. It costs 15 RM per night for a single room, and 30 RM per night for a double room. The rooms are well-ventilated, but they don't have air conditioning. Anyway, the weather is nice, it's less humid there than it is in the south. The owner is friendly, they have good food that's simple and tasty, and activities include diving and fishing. The hotel also provides snorkeling equipment. There's a small library where you can exchange your books. There are very few hotels on the small island of Kapas, and apart from luxury hotels, this is the only option for backpackers. If you have a slightly larger budget, the resorts are still very cheap if you compare them to middle-class hotels in Europe. The days go by to the rhythm of the sun here, without giving a second thought to the world outside, between the hammock and the beach there's really a good amount of respect for just relaxing after a long trip through the country.
Singamata Adventures is a palafito resort built on the sea, and is one of the best options for quality and price for those who don't want or can't afford to go to luxury resorts like Mataking or Pom Pom. It's also a very convenient option because it's just 10 minutes by boat from Semporna, which brings some problems because the coral reef there is torn. The resort is aimed at backpackers, couples and families, with accommodation ranging from dorms for 13 AC per day including meals, to cabins with ensuite for about 40 AC, as well as rooms with a shared bathroom. Interestingly enough, it used to be a fish farm, so it has retained enough big fish in a natural aquarium surrounded by networks and where some fish reach a meter in length. The five-star dive center Padi, and on my visit several Chinese were being certified for an up and coming sport in China. Sadly though, Asian coral reefs are being massively liquidated. The sunset views from the Backpackers canteen are spectacular. Complete guide to diving in Malaysian Borneo http://www.vagamundos.net/2011/pagina.phpid=12009

The Reef Dive Resort on the Mataking island in the Celebes Sea is a 40-minute speedboat ride from Semporna, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. It's a wonderful place for snorkeling and seeing a little of paradise, especially since this resort is the only building on the island, and allows a maximum of 70 people to stay in its Asian-style bungalows. Diving here is the best in the world. In one day you can see everything from dwarf seahorses to pretty good sized sharks, to turtles and all kinds of tropical fish. This hotel was built in the year 2000 and later renovated. It is a 5 star hotel, very well attended by staff and the decoration is very homely. Family atmosphere and very cozy. As for the rooms, they are spacious and well equipped. Near the hotel there is a spa center, ideal for relaxing.
Getting to Borneo isn't easy, and once in Borneo, getting to the region of Sabah is even more complicated, at least by land. Luckily there are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and other cities in Malaysia. The dive center and hostel Scuba-Junkie is designed for backpackers with very competitive prices. It's a privilege to dive in Sipadan, one of the top 10 dive sites in the world, declared by Commander Cousteau. The experience of staying on and diving from an old oil rig is amazing, especially if you are in one of the best dive sites in the world, Borneo. You get up early in the morning, eat breakfast, put on your suit and dive tanks and dive in spectacular seas. The number of dives you can do is unlimited, and only half an hour from the platform there are several famous islands like Sipadan, which Cousteau considered one of the top 10 dive sites in the world.
Lucy makes sure that your stay in KK is the nearest thing to being at home. The hostel is a wooden house of 2 floors located in a quiet area of KK but only a 5 minute walk from the center, where there are restaurants and bars. It has a terrace for smokers, a reading room with plenty of books and guides and a multinational environment in the capital of Sabah. Ideal to find people to accompany you on your ascent of Mount Kinabalu.
Located in the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur Sentral, the central transport of Kuala Lumpur is ideal to move around the city easily. My Hotel Sentral is a budget hotel, with spacious, clean rooms, there is with free wifi in the rooms, coffee and tea making facilites, bathroom ... All for about 10 € for a double room. From this hotel you'll get toChinatown in a couple of stations. Also close to the Petronas Towers. A good choice if you arrive late in the city or if you have to go to the airport the next day. With a station within 5 minutes walk will have options to visit anywhere in Kuala Lumpur.
If you want to go to Kuala Lumpur from the airport by bus (which is, by the way, the cheapest option), and if you want to stay in the center of the city, very close to China Town and if you´re looking for a cheap deal, this is your hotel ... It is situated less than 100 meters away from the central bus station Puduraya, which is located directly opposite. This is a great advantage to get from the airport and to travel around the city. Less than 5 min. walking and you're in the middle of China Town, with all its shops, markets and ... Chinese stuff :-) The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming, with a travel agency next to the reception if you want to take any organized tours. Elevator, the rooms have TV (the first in color) and manual air conditioning (ie no remote control). The furniture is old but the beds are comfortable. Clean ....???? everything seemed very clean ... We stayed in places which were infinitely worse and more expensive. If the neighbor snores, you hear it as if you had it in your bed ... A good place if you just want to sleep, wash and be close to everything.
Although I had a bad experience in the hostel, as the day I arrived two of my roomates had been robbed of their cameras and mobile phones. Fortunately my flight was delayed and when I checked in this incident was happening, so I just avoided it. The hostel is the best option for backpackers in Sandakan, with very friendly and attentive staff. It's situated on the promenade of the city, a few metere from the water, and in the commercial area, a short walk from the bus terminal and the main market, with lots of restaurants in the area.
The Soon Yee is definitely the best option for backpackers in Tawau, a town with little interest, but a compulsory stop between indoneso and Malaysian Borneo, to obtain a visa, as the visa on arrival in Indonesia to Westerners only occur in ports and major airports. The hotel owner is Chinese, he speaks good English and was very helpful with directions to the Indonesian consulate to get my visa. The single room, with TV, air conditioning and sink costs 7AC. It is in the heart of the city and withing walking distance of everything.
Located in Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown, 5 minutes walk from Jalan Petaling street is the Hotel Chill Inn. The hotel accommodation there comprises of single, double and quadruple rooms. The standard double room goes about 10 € and features a basic room with linen and bath towel layer. The bathroom is shared here. Superior rooms have private bathrooms and if all have breakfast included, basic milk powder and coffee, toast with jam, cookies, etc.. The rooms, hallways and rooms are quite clean. Perhaps where there is enough in reviewing the shared bathrooms. In the Asian bathrooms there is usually no shower curtain and dish dish, and water usually goes to a communal drain so everything can get lost in the water. This is hwe used normally find hotels here. Except for this little detail it is a hotel that offers many services such as free wifi in all the rooms, laundry service, shuttle service to and from the airport, fax, copiers, etc..
Good place to stay in Kuala Lumpur, it is a hostel with dormitory bedrooms including breakfast for 40 RM night. It has also doubles and triples, the triple for 150 RM / night, everything is brand new, with cable TV. It has a bar with a great atmosphere and restaurant with hearty food. Wifi access throughout the hostel. Subway station two minutes. Extremely clean. In Chinatown. It has a terrace where you can have a drink and breakfast.
Upon arriving in Kuala Lumpur, I stayed at the Hotel Istana, which I had booked via the internet from home. I'd been impressed by the website, and it was even better in reality. It's a hotel in the city centre, very convenient for travel - beautiful, comfortable and spacious, with friendly staff. The room offers an amazing view of the Petronas Towers. The breakfast is extraordinary, with a huge variety and quantity of food. Good price.
We found our accommodation in this small hotel in Chinatown because of the good quality-price ratio, and its situation was ideal for wandering around town. The rooms are small but comfortable, a clean bathroom with hot water, and a television with international channels. The service is attentive and helpful. You can also do laundry and reserve guided city tours.
Sama Sama Guest House is a nice and economical place to stay and is especially good for solo travelers as they organize lots of fun activities. For $15.00 a night you can have a nice room with a view looking out over beautiful Malacca. Super recommended!
