The property is next to the beautiful Botanical gardens and within walking distance of the University of Otago. Guests have access to the heated pool, spa, and sauna or can relax in the comfortable facilities. The spacious rooms are decorated in a unique and special way, and are non-smoking, with a balcony. The property has a restaurant.
Designed for comfort, style and space, these new luxury apartments are in a quiet area with mountain views. Every apartment has SKY TV, DVD, a fully equipped designer kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, oven and plates. There is a heated pool in winter, BBQ AREA, TENNIS, and gym.
The Matakauri Lodge is located just five kilometers from Queenstown and is quite easy to reach. It's an Andean-style lodge with great views across the city. It's a relaxing environment and ideal if you're looking for peace and quiet away from a big city.
Of the two YHA in Wanaka, this is the most popular, and in winter many skiers come because there are lockers in the rooms for boots and skis. In summer it is very nice because it is close to the lake, and there are several terraces with great views.
Of the 2 YHAs in Queenstown, this is the most welcoming. It´s a wooden building with lots of light that faces the lake and has overlooking balconies in many of the rooms. There are very spacious common areas and parking.
The hotel is almost as old as the country. New Zealand was founded in 1840 and the hotel in 1863. It is about 40 minutes from Queenstown and has a pub, restaurant, terrace and accommodation. At the entrance is a vehicle almost 100 years old and replicas of the old gas station and supply depot.
Queenstown has two YHA Hostels of Hostelling International, the Lake and the Central. I stayed at the latter. It has a privileged location in the city center, just 100 meters from the bus stop and the supermarket. This hostel has a friendly atmosphere, you can see the lake from the kitchen, the bedrooms come with bath rooms, and the rest of the YHA New Zealand can book any type of activities, both as sport tourism, highly recommended
The Base is a great hostel for younger people, since they have a bar that is the most funky in town. There are organized activities designed for teenagers. It has several floors and is 100 meters from the lake.
This is one of the YHA of New Zealand located in an older historic building dating back to 1902. It's a maze of hallways, corridors and stairs that only the Victorians may have, with separate areas for the help and the owners. The views from the top roof garden are spectacular, but some of the hostel facilities are a bit creepy, such at the TV room in the basement. They make up for it with great attention and help.
A lovely hostel in a wooden house, situated in a beautiful location, Surat Bay. Surat Bay has a beach for a few miles inhabited by a colony of sea lions. The sea lions are quite peaceful and let you zoom to take pictures. Double rooms for 30 € and a bed in a dorm costs 13 €. There is a nice garden.
The Aurum Hotel And Suites (Queenstown - Otago - New Zealand) is 300 meters from the middle of Queenstown. This luxury hotel has 84 superior rooms and suites. Each one has high speed internet access and most have spectacular views overlooking the lakes or the mountains. If offers 24 hour reception and room service, dry cleaning, tourist information and booking service and a Lobby Bar.
Nomads is the best hostel in Queenstown in my opinion (I also stayed in Base). It has a great location, right next to the lake, and has a very good quality : price ratio for New Zealand, which is an expensive country to visit. The hostel is super clean, the rooms are spacious, and they serve coffee in the morning - rare in this country. It's always bustling, and they offer dinner - small portions and dishes that change everyday. Get there early to ensure that you'll eat!
If you want to cook, they have a very well-equipped kitchen. There's a common room with several sofas and a fireplace, where people can often be found chatting or using the wifi (chargeable). Another advantage of the hostel is that the consumption of alcoholic beverages is free until a certain time, which is also rare in New Zealand. Plus, they have a travel agency inside and several computers for those who want to access the Internet. I loved it - a great place to meet new people and make friends.
One of the best hotels in Queenstown, located just opposite the lake, with impeccable service and attention. Sometimes they have offers rooms for about 80 €, that Queenstown is a good price. Its restaurant, threesixty is one of the best in town.
It is on the same street as the YHA but a bit more central. This huge building used to be a hotel, now converted to BBH hostel chain, kiwi home. It's too big for my taste, but has the advantage of the Internet, bicycles and laundry services are free.
Of the two YHA that are in Wanaka, this is the smallest and most quiet. It is 5 minutes from the lake and 10 from the town. Perfect for those who want a few days off, have coffee and tea and a large garden for warmer weather
The Copthorne Hotel is an excellent 4-star hotel just ten minutes from downtown Queenstown and not far from Lake Wakatipu. It has 85 rooms, but I'd suggest trying to reserve a room overlooking the lake. The hotel has a good restaurant and the service is excellent. The price is about what you'd expect for a hotel of this calibre.
The Grand Mercure Oakridge Resort, in Wanaka, Otago, New Zealand, is located within Cardrona Valley. It's just minutes from the shores of Lake Wanaka. There are 173 rooms with 1 or 2 bedrooms, a restaurant, 9 heated pools with pool bar and Sanctuary Day Spa. During the summer, activities include hiking, climbing and mountain biking, fishing, swimming and boating, while in winter the Treble Cone Cardrona Snow resort is very near. There are rooms for meetings and conference facilities for up to 250.
This YHA is in the heart of the the liveliest city in New Zealand right where the nightlife is the most concentrated. It´s more expensive than the Lakefront which is 10 minutes from downtown. This one is inevitably more noisy but the facilities are great.
The Country Comfort Alcala Motor Lo (Dunedin - Otago - New Zealand) is on the southeastern coast of the South Island, New Zealand. It is considered the wildlife and heritage capital of New Zealand, as it's the home of the rare royal albatross and yellow-eyed penguins. It has a wide range of excellent conference and weddings.
This hotel is on WANAKA, a quiet area with trees. It is a boutique hotel in a purely Alpine styple, which offers the possibility to spend a quiet and comfortable stay to explore the beauty of this alpine village. Its wooden construction is combined with stone accents and a large fireplace which creates a warm atmosphere. Most rooms have views of the peaks which surround the area.
