    Paradors in Hondarribia
Parador de Hondarribia - Castillo de Carlos V
Hondarribia is a sea village full of history. It shows the traveler two sides of it. One side is the sea village represented by the Marina neighborhood with a typical coastal physiognomy with the port and colorful houses, taverns full of pinchos and typical restaurants that lets you taste the delicacies of the Basque cuisine. The other side is the city, the one that protects itself from the dangers of the sea using thick and high walls (partly destroyed in the 18th Century). The walls protect a small city that has nothing to do with the coastal part. Its squared layout, so typical of medieval times, transports us to past times where the narrow, cobbled streets, the greatness of some richly decorated buildings with coats of arms in their facades reveal the glory of past inhabitants. We go up the streets of the historic downtown until we reach an immense building that resembles a castle-fort. It has thick walls of about 2-3 meters wide. I’m talking about the Parador de Turismo de Hondarribia, also popularly known as Carlos V Castle. The origins of the building go back to the 10th Century, under the reign of Sancho Abarca of Navarra. The structure of the building suffered enlargements and fortifications, until in the reign of Carlos V the current façade was built. It is a sober façade that heightens the fort-like appearance. The only decorative element in the exterior is found in the entrance, with a small simply decorated arch where you can see the imperial coat of arms with the two headed eagle. The interior of the building is mainly made of stone, whose presence gives it a unique atmosphere. Aches, spears, canons, and armors complete the austere decoration, giving warmth and elegance to the space. If you are lucky enough to stay in this parador, you will be able to contemplate the beautiful bedrooms with gorgeous views of the Basque-French coast. But if you don’t I recommend you to make a stop in the way to have a beer or good wine in its splendid bar or in one of its terraces, from where you also have great views.

    Gran Zarautz Campsite
For those looking for a spot in the northern part with great views and looking to spend a peaceful vacation, this is the perfect place. It is located in the upper part of the Mount Tala Mendi, next to the Zarautz beach. There is access to the beach from there. You can’t miss the sunset from the “viewpoint” with great views of the sea. You can see it in the pictures. I recommend it to the camping lovers.

Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian hotel
We wanted to get lost in the Basque Country and we had two options, this hotel in San Sebastian and the Sheraton Bilbao, but we ended up going to San Sebastian. I had already heard about the hotel, that it was spectacular, that it lodges famous people in the film festival, I had seen the rooms in clothes catalogues, in the television, etc, and I wanted to see for myself if it was just a façade to sell products, but no, it is truly beautiful, with an excellent service and a privileged location in the city. I spent one of the most luxurious weekends of my life. The exterior of the hotel is beautiful, it is one of the most luxurious hotels in Spain, it belongs to the Luxury Collection chain, so the building has to be ancient and unique. It was inaugurated by the Queen María Cristina; this is why the hotel is called like this. It is a five star hotel. The luxury and beauty capture everyone who sees it. The location couldn’t be better, close to everything, the beaches, the Kurssal, the Victoria Theater, the old part of town, and the pinchos. The hotel gave us a map of the city, recommended where to dine, where to eat pinchos and where to have drinks. With the hotel card we had free access to the casino and a couple of cool discotheques. We had direct access to the parking lot, about 10 Euros for 24 hours.

    Hotel Rio Bidasoa
There aren’t many hotel options in Hondarribia (there are only four or five hotels) but, in general, they are all good quality hotels. Personally I recommend this hotel to all travelers: its calm with a customer service that will make you feel at home, all the rooms and bathrooms are spacious, it has a good pool and a good restaurant…all the details are carefully taken care of. Moreover it has a great location (five minute walk from the pinchos main street) and it is exactly in front of the old part of Hondarribia. If you are looking for a calm weekend, then going to Hondarribia and staying in the Bidasoa Hotel is a great choice.

Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra
This elegant and charming hotel, housed in a beautiful building with a neoclassical façade from the start of the century, is a symbol of San Sebastián. Its location on the beach of La Concha and just steps from the city centre is a luxury. Despite having been modernised and updated, it preserves intact its "belle epoque" traits.

    Hotel Niza
I love this hotel opposite the Paseo de la Concha and steps from the Old Town of Donostia. This charming building has a decidedly French air from the 20th century. The rooms and decor like decades ago, but the rooms, many of which face the sea, have been renovated with modern, mainly white, decor. It's a great place in the heart of San Sebastian.

NH Collection San Sebastián Aranzazu hotel
Great 4 star hotel with an exceptional location, just a three minute walk from the beach. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, Kukuarri, which had the honour of receiving the "Revelation 2005" prize. Breakfast is also great, although I must say that if you do not take breakfast included, in the same street there are several bars where you can have a great breakfast.

    Barceló Costa Vasca hotel
This hotel is a 10 minute walk from the beach, but is very quiet. Breakfast was spectacular, including a chocolate fountain with churros. Rooms are spacious and clean, with a small terrace included. Highly recommended. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

    Hotel Donosti
I chose this hotel for a few days stay in San Sebastian during the annual Jazz festival. Beautiful and charming, this friendly hotel reflects the ancient village in the upper area of San Sebastián. The service is very personalized and friendly, you find all kinds of details in the rooms. I really didn't feel like leaving the hotel because it has a bar, patio and a host of amenities. A few meters away, there is the restaurant Arzak, and public transport that takes you to the city centre in less than 10 minutes. Highly recommended for a couple, since it has a lot of charm. Details throughout the building make your stay almost like a paradise. The rooms are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. They accept pets.

    Pensión Iturriza
A guesthouse in the old town of San Sebastian, near the church of Santa Maria. The apartment on the top floor is a penthouse with two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, and bathroom. It has a spectacular terrace overlooking the Concha Bay and the entire city. Ibon, the guy who runs it, is very nice and helpful.
    Guesthouses in San Sebastián
    Pensión Itxasoa
This guesthouse is located in the historical centre of San Sebastian, opposite the Palace of San Telmo, at the foot of Mount Urgull, between the beaches of La Concha and Zurriola. It's a modest guesthouse in a residential building, so there's not much more than a counter that serves as reception and the rooms. We booked a double with extra bed, and to tell the truth we were a little disappointed by the quality : price ratio. The service was poor - the only contact we had in five days was when we arrived and were told that the room was still not ready, despite it being 2pm, and when we left and were given the bill. It's a small hotel with just five rooms, so we expected more family-style service, and for the managers to take notice of the details, but it was quite the opposite. Upon entering the room I noticed that the cleaning was insufficient, the closet quite old and full of dust. But looking at the view from the balcony ... I could forget those little inconveniences, just gazing over the beauty of the city and the sea. Another advantage is its proximity to the area famous for pintxos, no need to drive anywhere.

    Hotel San Nikolas
I like this hotel's location, its breathtaking views of the sea, the mountains, the cobbled Old Town, the colorful houses that surround it ... the truth is that this is a unique place and a wonderful place to stay. It offers a great location at very good prices. It also has a lift (not all of these buildings have one) television, bathroom and wifi in all rooms.

    Monte Igueldo Hotel
This hotel is located on top of Mount Igueldo, as its name suggests. It's an institution, and like everything else in this beautiful city, it is an old landmark that has adapted to the times. Today it might be one of the best places to stay in San Sebastian - not for nothing, it is the hotel of choice for Real Madrid when they play here. You can see the hotel from all over the city, and if you're lucky enough to have a room with a view, you'll have amazing sights to behold both day and night. The room we had had a terrace overlooking the bay. Large, clean, and heated, it was comfortable and eco-friendly (they offer the option of hanging your towel, to keep it for the next day). The TV was modern, although we didn't use it much, and the minibar was computerized, so if you took something from it, it would be charged directly (we didn't try). The only complaint we could make is that the wifi is charged separately (5 euros for 24 hours), which was a bit annoying. Despite this, the hotel is a good choice, with great service. Some of the waitresses have been working here for decades, and they are welcoming and friendly. The dining rooms are incomparable, overlooking the bay of La Concha. In a storm you can watch waves crashing onto the port, and with good weather you can enjoy the calm sight of the bay. What a great breakfast, too! A delicious buffet, all recently prepared. Okay, so it's not suitable for all budgets, but if you get the chance to stay here, take it!
